This week, Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) expressed his concern regarding the Biden administration's ban on U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. As a member of the Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee, Latta participated in a hearing to discuss the implications of this decision on America's energy and economic security.

Latta, along with more than 150 House Republicans, sent a letter to President Biden demanding the end of the de facto ban on U.S. LNG. He emphasized the importance of this issue for his district, the Fifth District of Ohio, stating, "President Biden's latest move to further handicap U.S. energy security is a detriment to millions of Americans and thousands of Ohioans. With Ohio's Fifth District being home to more than 86,000 manufacturing jobs, if we don't have affordable energy, we cannot compete."

During the hearing, Latta highlighted the significance of natural gas production in supporting domestic manufacturing. He shared his recent conversation with representatives from manufacturing companies in Putnam County, where the concerns and issues they are facing were discussed. Latta emphasized that the decision to ban LNG exports will have a drastic impact on Americans from all sectors of the workforce. He continued to urge the Biden administration to reverse course, saying, "What's made this country great in the last several years is our ability to produce natural gas that ensures our companies can produce their products domestically, at a low cost."

The ban on U.S. LNG exports was implemented on January 26, freezing the approval process for new export sites. Latta criticized this decision, stating that it prioritizes the wishes of radical activists over U.S. energy security and the security of our allies.

Studies have shown that LNG exports have the potential to significantly contribute to the U.S. economy. It is estimated that by 2040, LNG exports could add upwards of $73 billion to the economy, create around 453,000 American jobs, and increase U.S. held purchasing power by $30 billion. Additionally, the U.S. has seen a significant increase in LNG export capacity over the past seven years, going from zero to 11.6 billion cubic feet per day. Despite this growth, the spot price of U.S. natural gas has remained relatively stable and affordable.

The decision to ban LNG exports not only weakens global energy security but also poses a threat to U.S. energy leadership and investment in American energy. Latta expressed his concern that these actions will hinder the country's ability to compete in the global market.

In conclusion, Congressman Bob Latta is urging the Biden administration to reconsider its decision on the ban of U.S. LNG exports. He believes that this ban will have a detrimental impact on America's energy and economic security, and he emphasizes the importance of affordable energy for domestic manufacturing and job creation. The congressman joins many House Republicans in their call to reverse course and prioritize U.S. energy security and leadership.
