Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) has released a statement following Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers' announcement to retire at the end of the 118th Congress. Latta expressed his admiration for Rodgers' two decades of service to the people of Eastern Washington in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Latta described Rodgers as a trailblazer and highlighted her accomplishments, stating, "Chair Rodgers served as the Republican Conference Chair and as the first woman to Chair the best committee in Congress - the Committee on Energy and Commerce." He praised her leadership and principled approach, noting the significant achievements made under her guidance.

Under Rodgers' leadership, the Energy and Commerce Committee has tackled important issues and passed landmark legislation. Latta specifically mentioned the committee's work on addressing the opioid crisis, expanding rural broadband internet access, and securing U.S. energy independence through an all-of-the-above energy strategy. He also highlighted the committee's recent accomplishments in the field of energy, including the passage of his own Nuclear Fuel Security Act, which Latta credited to Rodgers' leadership.

Latta expressed his sadness at Rodgers' decision to retire but acknowledged that family should always come first. He recognized her desire to spend more time with her husband and children and thanked her for her many years of service to the country and the House of Representatives.

Latta concluded his statement by acknowledging the impact Rodgers' work has had on communities across the country, stating, "Her leadership and wisdom will be sorely missed here in the halls of Congress."

The retirement of Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a respected and influential member of Congress, marks the end of an era in Eastern Washington politics. Her departure will undoubtedly leave a void in the halls of Congress, but her legacy of principled leadership and impactful legislation will continue to resonate for years to come.
