Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) cosponsored – the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act – to protect Americans from the Chinese Communist Party. The bill does not ban TikTok, rather it protects U.S. national security by providing Communist China-controlled ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, the ability to divest their ownership of TikTok. If it’s determined TikTok is no longer controlled by a foreign adversary, then TikTok would be available to its U.S. users.

Last week, Latta helped introduce the bill with a bipartisan coalition of 17 other members. And under the leadership of Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced the bill through a bipartisan vote of 50-0.

"When Congress seems to be more divided than ever, it’s encouraging we have come together in a bipartisan fashion to send the Chinese Communist Party a clear message: we will not stand for the surveillance, targeting, and manipulation of the American people," said Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5).

"I’m honored to help lead this bill alongside Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chair Mike Gallagher and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi, and I thank them for their leadership on this necessary effort. I’m now calling on the Senate to take up this bill and send it to the President’s desk to be signed into law. It’s time we stand up to Communist China and relinquish their control over TikTok," added Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5).
