For the same period, the nursing home was given an overall CMS rating of 3, which is lower than the statewide nursing home average of 3.2 for Ohio. CMS assigns ratings to nursing homes after examining major categories such as health inspections, staffing, and care quality delivered to residents.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the older adult population in the United States continues to rise as numbers for younger age groups decline. From 2020 to 2024, the population of Americans 65 and older increased by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population has sharply expanded, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

Findings from a 2021 study show nearly half this age group, about 28 million people, may need long-term service and support. The study further projects that more than a third could eventually require care in a nursing home setting.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
