City of Findlay issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
The Findlay Income Tax Department mailed calendar-year 2020 income tax filing notices to over 28,000 Findlay, Arlington, Mount Cory, Vanlue, Carey, and Mount Blanchard taxpayers this week.
The Tax Department issues the yellow postcard notices in late November or early December to stay ahead of the busy holiday and new-year mail seasons and to obtain more favorable scheduling from the bulk mail service provider.
The purpose of the notices is to remind local taxpayers of their obligation to file municipal income tax returns during the forthcoming income tax filing season or to communicate that there may be an outstanding matter that needs to be resolved.
Soon after the first of the year, income tax forms will be available at the Municipal Building, at the main and the Arlington branches of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, and on the Tax Department’s website at findlayohio.com/incometax.
From each taxpayer who received the yellow postcard filing notice, the Income Tax Department will be expecting a 2020 municipal income tax return or a legitimate response that the taxpayer is not required to file an annual income tax return. The 2020 annual income tax returns will be due Thursday, April 15, 2021.
Findlay, Arlington, Mount Cory, Vanlue, Carey, and Mount Blanchard resident individuals who are 18 years of age or older are required to file a respective municipal income tax return even if they had no taxable income. Findlay, Arlington, and Carey resident individuals who are 16 or 17 years of age and who have income that is subject to the tax must file even if no additional income tax is due.
Mount Cory, Vanlue, and Mount Blanchard individuals are subject to the village income tax when they reach age 18. Findlay, Arlington, and Carey individuals are subject to the municipal income tax when they reach age 16.
Any person, business, or entity that conducted business or owned rental property in Findlay, Arlington, Mount Cory, Vanlue, Carey, or Mount Blanchard must file a respective municipal income tax return, even if no income tax is due. Non-resident individuals who worked in any of the communities must file if their employers did not withhold enough Findlay or village income tax.
Non-residents who are subject to the income tax do not have to file if all their city or village income taxes were completely and accurately withheld by their employers.
