City of Findlay recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Findlay is pleased to announce that Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) has donated $50,000 toward the construction of the Simulated Tactical Response & Incident Command Training (STRICT) Center, a facility that will benefit local first responders.

Myron Lewis, president and chief executive officer of BVHS, recently presented the donation to Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn, with Service-Safety Director Rob Martin, Findlay Police Chief Robert Ring and Findlay Fire Chief Josh Eberle in attendance.

“BVHS is proud to be part of this special project,” said Lewis. “As the community’s provider of healthcare services, we want to support efforts that keep our family, friends and neighbors safe. Great things happen when we work together.”

The City of Findlay identified the need to construct a public safety training complex, accessible to all fire departments, law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services’ companies within Hancock County. Each agency is expected to provide a wide variety of services. With any skill, proficiency requires continual training and practice, and these responders provide the first line of defense for citizens and businesses against disaster, crime, illness and trauma.

Conceptual plans show the STRICT Center will be built behind Findlay Fire Station 4, on County Road 236. The facility will feature a burn building, which allows for live-fire training for area firefighters, along with a non-burn tactical building, which will facilitate year-round training for fire, law enforcement and EMS personnel.

“The donation by BVHS will help greatly in breaking ground on this facility, and it really shows their commitment to the overall safety and welfare of our citizens,” said Chief Eberle.

Mayor Muryn agreed, adding, “The willingness of BVHS to provide a donation in the middle of managing a pandemic validates the community support for this project.”

BVHS joins a number of additional funding partners in this project. The total amount raised to date is $784,500 from public, private and non-profit sources.
