Tiffin University to Produce “RENT”

6

Tiffin University recently issued the following announcement.

Tiffin University’s (TU’s) Creative Arts Institute presents the renowned musical “RENT” to be held at the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Tiffin March 17 – 20. This is TU’s fourth annual musical, and the first time a production will be presented at The Ritz. Aly Horn, Managing Director of Creative Arts directs the show.

The show also represents part of an ongoing celebration of more than 25 years of music at Tiffin University, and of the musical’s run on Broadway. Both the show and TU’s music department began at the same time a quarter-century ago.

“We have established a tradition for choosing impactful, cutting-edge and culturally significant shows that students likely wouldn’t ever have the chance to be a part of anywhere else,” says Brad Rees, TU Vice Provost for Creative Arts. “Rent has always been one of our first choices, and so we’re very excited that the rights became available this year and we finally get to present it. It’s such an important show, and its message is timely even a quarter-century later.”

The show features Jessica Briney, a second-year history education major from Elsinore, California, as Mimi. Carter Bennett plays Roger and is a third-year commercial music major from Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Tristen Johnson, a junior commercial music major from Medina, Ohio, plays Mark. The cast also includes Audra Sennish as Maureen, Jordan West as Tom, Lucas Rosenberger as Angel, Julia Ochenduski as Joanne and Daulton Shields as Benjamin.

The production opens on Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. Additional performances will also take place on Friday and Saturday, March 18and 19 at 7 p.m., with matinees on Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20 at 1 p.m.. In addition to being sold online, tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance. Please note that the show may not be appropriate for younger children, due to the mature themes and situations presented.
