CITY HALL ANNEX CLOSED FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER
Beginning in late May, the City of Tiffin Finance Department will be closed for renovations to the City Hall Annex. The closure was held off until May to keep from interfering with the tax filing deadline, and is expected to last until September.
During construction, finance department staff will continue to work at various offices in City Hall, 51 E. Market St. Staff for the sewer revenue department will be located on the first floor. A drive-up dropbox is being installed outside City Hall to securely leave documents, and residents are encouraged to use the e-file and online payment system on www.tiffinohio.gov for ease of payments.
The exterior of the building will be slightly expanded, bringing the front of the building flush rather than its current configuration with a vestibule inset, and providing additional space on the interior for public and private spaces at the office. Also, updates to the exterior will increase ADA compliance.
Improvements to the exterior were approved March 15 by the City of Tiffin Architectural Board of Review.
In addition to reconfiguring the public and private spaces in the office, interior updates include a conference room, office for the tax commissioner and other changes to improve workflow and efficiency and to more securely maintain confidential records. The department’s last major renovation was in the early 1990s.
“This update is ultimately being done to make the department more efficient and better equipped to help the public,” said Finance Director Kathleen Kaufman. “It is important that we provide private spaces for confidential materials and discussions to take place, while also maintaining a welcoming environment for residents.”
Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said, “These improvements at the Finance Department are long overdue and I thank Finance Director Kaufman and her staff for being flexible during this period to continue to best serve the citizens of Tiffin.”
Staff will continue to be accessible by phone and email during construction. For information during the transition, residents should direct questions to Nick Dutro, Director of Communications and Constituent Services, at (419) 448-5401.
