Choose Ohio First Scholarship Funds Awarded to University of Findlay

3

University of Findlay will receive $1,487,500 as part of the Choose Ohio First (COF) Scholarship for eligible students in a total of 31 academic programs. Areas of study that qualify for the COF Scholarship include computer science, environmental safety, biology, pharmacy, health professions, and adolescent/young adult (AYA) math or science education, among others.

This year, nearly $43 million was awarded to COF programs to support students in a number of Ohio colleges and universities. The Ohio Department of Higher Education created this scholarship as “part of a strategic effort to encourage Ohio’s economic strength by ensuring a ready workforce for STEM-related industries.”

“UF is very pleased to receive funding from the Choose Ohio First program over the past 14 years. This specific scholarship program helps support students who wish to earn a degree in high-demand STEM(M) career fields,” said Jeffrey Frye, Ph.D., dean of the College of Sciences at University of Findlay. “According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, each of the degree programs have the potential for growth over the next five to ten years, indicating that jobs in these STEM(M) career fields will increase. “

Scholarships will begin to be awarded in the fall of 2022 and may provide students up to $8,000 per academic year for four-year undergraduate programs, and $1,500 for graduate programs. Recipients must be Ohio residents or graduates of Ohio high schools, enrolled in an eligible program, and meet additional academic requirements defined by the University.

“UF offers a quality education and those who graduate with a degree from UF are desirable as employees because graduates learn the technical skills, work ethic, and mindset required to be successful in their career,” Frye stated.
