On the evening of Friday, June 3, eight members of the Tiffin University a cappella vocal group, Up in the Air will join forces with college, high school and community choirs and ensembles from across the country for a performance at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City, New York. They will be conducted by John Stafford, one of the country’s leading choral conductors. The performance will also feature jazz vocalists Peter Eldridge and Lauren Kinhan, members of the Grammy-winning ensemble, New York Voices.
This collaborative show will act as the national premier of “Missa Lucia,” a choral jazz mass by composer Justin Binek. Binek is a longtime colleague of TU, frequently serving as a guest artist, clinician and/or teacher for University-sponsored festivals and summer music camps.
“This is an historic moment both for TU’s Creative Arts Institute and the University as a whole,” says Brad Rees, Vice Provost for Creative Arts. “Up in the Air has worked for and earned the privilege to perform at one of the most coveted venues in the world among these internationally-recognized talents. Their unwavering commitment has been evident since we first began rehearsals and I am so proud of all they have collectively achieved.”
Up in the Air will also perform for a creative and performing arts high school in Eastern Pennsylvania before the Carnegie Hall concert. Additionally, they will host a show at Shawnee Craft Brewery in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. There, the group will perform with recording artist and Tiffin native, Regina Sayles on Saturday, June 4.
