Oilers Finish Third at UIndy Fall Invite

The University of Findlay women's golf team concluded the UIndy Fall Invite, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Prairie View Golf Club. The Oilers fell to the no. 1 ranked Dallas Baptist University and no. 11 University of Indianapolis. The Oilers shot a final round of 300 (+12) and a 54-hole score of 883 (+12). They finished 23 strokes behind the Patriots and 1 stroke behind the Greyhounds. Notably the Oilers finished ahead of no. 8 Lee University and no. 16 Grand Valley State University. 

The Oilers were led by sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy whose consistent play left her tied for fifth and earned her a spot on the all-tournament team. M. Mulcahy fired off rounds of 70 (-2), 73 (+1), and 73 (+1) to leave her at even par for the tournament. Senior Danbi Kim had a good showing as she finished right behind M. Mulcahy and tied for sixth. Her rounds of 73 (+1), 71 (-1), and 74 (+2) left her at two-over par. Sophomore Erin Mulcahy finished 17th at eight-over par after rounds of 70 (-2), 77 (+5), 77 (+5). Senior Jill Schmitmeyer came in 20th place with rounds of 72 (E), 78 (+6), and 76 (+4). Rounding out the lineup was junior Gabby Woods who came in a tie for 37th after rounds of 75 (+3), 77 (+5) , and 80 (+8).

Competing as individuals in the tournament were freshman Hayley Dye, junior Sarah Scarpill and freshman Nicole Jones. Dye finished in a tie for 26th carding rounds of 75 (+3), 76 (+4), and 77 (+5) leaving her at 12-over par. Scarpill shot rounds of 76 (+4), 75 (+3), and 83 (+11) putting her in a tie for 45th at 18-over par. Jones finished the tournament at 22-over par with rounds of 78 (+6) ,77 (+5), and 83 (+11) to leave her in a tie for 61st.

The Oilers will be back in action at the  Gildas Club Laker Fall Invite hosted by Grand Valley State University on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26.
