The Ohio Northern women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in its fall season with a 7-2 victory over NCAA Division II foe Cedarville on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the West Campus Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 overall, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-3.
Northern swept the three doubles courts to go up 3-0, then won at Nos. 6, 1, 3 and 2 singles to grab a 7-0 lead.
Freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) and freshmen Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) each went 2-0 to lead the hosts.
Hurst and junior Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
Bell combined with freshman Abby Cruser to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and senior Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) and sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-5 at Nos. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.
Sophomore Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) made it 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and Hurst clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to extend the lead to 6-0 and Bell won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to make it 7-0.
The Polar Bears will return to action Sept. 16 and 17th at the Hope (Mich.) Invitational.
