No. 2-ranked sophomore Jacob Reed (Lancaster) and No. 7-ranked senior Chase Sumner (Ada) led the No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team at the non-scoring Wilkes (Pa.) Open on Thursday at the Marts Center.

Reed, who was seeded second, won the 141-pound weight class title with a 4-0 record. He defeated top-seeded Josh Mason of NCAA Division II Bloomsburg (Pa.) 3-2 in the championship match.

Reed improves to a team-best 23-0 and picked up his team-leading 10th pin on the season.

Top-seeded Sumner was also undefeated on the day, finishing with a 4-0 mark and two pins. He did not compete in the finals due to a medical forfeit to finish second at 149 pounds.

He will head into the 2023 portion of the schedule with a 21-1 record and tied with Reed with 10 falls on the year.

Four other Polar Bears also placed in the top six in their respective weight classes, led by senior Ben DePrest (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier), who placed fourth at 197 with a 1-2 record. DePrest is now 5-4 on the season.

Sophomore Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) placed fifth at 157 with a 4-2 mark and is now 15-6 on the year.

Second-seeded senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne) finished sixth at 165 with a 4-1 record and sophomore Adam Myers (Springfield/Shawnee) placed sixth at 174 with a 3-2 mark.

Hardrick is now 21-3 and Myers is 10-8.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Jan. 5 with a dual meet at Mount Saint Joseph.
