On behalf of the State of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), Tiffin University has been awarded $952,000 through the Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship program. The University was selected for its commitment to providing work-based learning experiences, as well as financial and academic support to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students. The funding will directly support tuition aid-related efforts for TU’s relevant student populations.

“Tiffin University is very fortunate to receive such support from the State of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Higher Education,” said Dr. Michelle Maus, Associate Professor of Healthcare Administration and Dean for Assessment and Accreditation. “This opportunity will impact many students over five years who are passionate about and have committed to pursuing an education in a STEM program. The Choose Ohio First Team at Tiffin University fully commits to ensuring student success throughout the learning journey.”

TU was one of 45 institutions that applied to receive part of the $28 million allotted through the State of Ohio’s and ODHE’s pledge to support STEM-based talent in 2023. Choose Ohio First is an important part of Ohio’s strategy to develop STEM talent in the state. As such, the current administration has committed more than $161.3 million over the past four years to STEM and STEM education scholarships.

“The continued support of the Choose Ohio First program means more of Ohio’s STEM students have an additional springboard to success,” said Randy Gardner, ODHE Chancellor. “This new award demonstrates Tiffin University’s ongoing commitment to the critical field of cybersecurity, as well as a commitment to its talented STEM students, who will also benefit from work-based learning opportunities.”

“This is wonderful for both our STEM-oriented programs and for our institution as a whole,” said Dr. Peter J. Holbrook, Provost and Chief Academic Officer. “Our gratitude is extended to the ODHE and state administration for recognizing our ongoing efforts to provide the best in educational practices for our relevant students, and this grant will certainly help us continue this work more effectively and on a larger scale.
