Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) expressed his support for law enforcement during National Police Week, emphasizing the crucial role of police officers in maintaining community safety. Latta recently voted to advance several pro-police bills through the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Day in and day out, our men and women in blue work hard to ensure the safety and security of our communities. As we recognize National Police Week, I am proud to support law enforcement's efforts by helping advance several commonsense, pro-police bills," said Latta. He highlighted the expansion of COPS grants for police officer recruitment, condemnation of calls to defund the police, and prioritization of law enforcement safety.

Latta extended his gratitude to all law enforcement officers in Ohio's Fifth District, saying: "Thank you for being willing to stand in harm's way to protect our communities. We are forever grateful for your service."

The advanced pro-police legislation includes S. 546 – Recruit and Retain Act which expands the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant program; H.R. 7581 – Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act requiring development of reports on violent attacks against law enforcement officers; H.R. 8146 – Police Our Border Act necessitating a report on border crisis impact on various levels of law enforcement; H.R. 7343 – Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act amending the Immigration and Nationality Act; H.R. 354 – LEOSA Reform Act broadening authority for certain officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines; H.R. 7530 – DC CRIMES Act of 2024 allowing Congress oversight power and promoting safety by blocking soft-on-crime sentencing; H.Resolutions condemning border crisis burdens on law enforcement officers, defunding local agencies, and increased violence towards them.
