COLUMBUS – State Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) has announced that Morrow and Wyandot counties will receive significant funding for jail improvements through the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program.
Morrow County is set to receive over $4.3 million for renovation projects at the Morrow County Correctional Facility, which was built in 1996. The security upgrades aim to enhance the building’s safety.
Wyandot County will be allocated over $19.4 million to construct a new jail, replacing one of the oldest jails in the state, dating back to 1846. The new facility will increase the number of available beds and provide additional accommodations for individuals with special needs.
“Small-town communities like ours have been stretching resources to meet the challenges they face. This funding from the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program will go a long way to meet the needs of the facilities moving forward,” said McClain. “To protect inmates and the staff at our county facilities, safety and security improvements need to be made.”
In total, over $78 million was awarded to five jail revitalization projects across Ohio.
