Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) and President of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Heather Reams co-authored an op-ed in The Hill emphasizing the significance of energy permitting to achieve North American energy independence. They argue that repeated cycles of litigation have impeded vital energy infrastructure development.
"There is bipartisan consensus that we need more energy production in this country, not less," they wrote. "Look no further than the energy needed to support massive new data centers across the country powering industries like artificial intelligence and crypto mining."
The authors advocate for an all-encompassing energy strategy to bolster the economy and ensure a stable power supply. This strategy involves building on House Republicans’ landmark permitting legislation, H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act.
"The provisions within this legislation are the Republican gold-standard for a modernization and streamlining of the federal permitting processes that is desperately needed by the American clean energy industry," they stated.
Despite several provisions from H.R. 1 being enacted through the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which they describe as "the most meaningful permitting reforms in decades," one crucial aspect remains unresolved: judicial review.
