State Senator Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin) announced that $23.8 million is allocated to the 26th District for the construction and renovation of local jails.

Wyandot County will receive $19.4 million to build a new jail, increasing capacity and providing more beds for both men and women with special needs. Morrow County will receive $4.3 million for security upgrades and other renovations at its current facility.

"It's imperative we invest in jail infrastructure to ensure law enforcement has the tools they need to keep our communities safe and to promote environments in our justice system to help people rehabilitate," Reineke said. "These dollars will help Wyandot and Morrow counties succeed in this mission."

In total, more than $78 million will support five jail projects across Ohio. The funds come from the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Grant program, which has distributed over $178 million in awards to local counties since its inception.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's Bureau of Adult Detention administers the funds.
