State Senator Bill Reineke has announced that several communities in his region will receive funding for community development projects. The funds, totaling $688,250, are allocated to five counties and municipalities.
"These grant dollars will help our locals invest in several important items to enhance public safety, preserve our history, and improve our recreational sites," Reineke stated. "This is all good news for rural Ohio."
The recipients of the awards include Marion County, which will receive $150,000 for building upgrades at the New Bloomington Masonic building and improvements at New Bloomington Park. Morrow County is set to receive $172,000 for sidewalk projects in Fulton and Marengo. The City of Tiffin will be granted $150,000 for enhancements at Apple-Jack Park. Union County's allocation of $150,000 will aid street improvements and the installation of a tornado siren in Unionville Center. Wyandot County will use its $66,250 to purchase tornado sirens for Kirby and McCutchenville.
This funding is part of the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Allocation Program. Communities considered non-entitlement by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development can apply biannually. In 2024, 49 eligible communities across Ohio are sharing a total of $10,997,450.
