Congressman Bob Latta and Congresswoman Robin Kelly have reintroduced the Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act, aiming to assist farmers nationwide in integrating technology into their farming practices. The bill was initially introduced during the 118th Congress and passed the U.S. House with a vote of 409-11 on April 26, 2023.
"Farmers in Ohio's Fifth District know that in order to continue producing high-yield crops, they need access to 21st Century technology," Latta stated. He expressed optimism about receiving similar bipartisan support this time around for his bill, which aims to boost productivity and enhance farming operations across America.
Kelly highlighted the growth of farms in Illinois's Second District from 2,000 to over 4,500, emphasizing their importance as family-owned entities that form the backbone of the food supply. "I'm proud to work with Rep. Latta again to introduce the Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act to help our farmers maximize yield and profitability," she said.
The proposed legislation would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to review its satellite rules with an eye toward promoting precision agriculture. This effort builds upon Latta's previous work on the Precision Agriculture Connectivity Act included in the Farm Bill signed into law in 2018, which established a task force dedicated to precision agriculture.
