Tiffin University recently issued the following announcement.
Tiffin University is to host a Sports Technology Summer Camp June 13 through June 15, 2022. The camp is open to all high school-aged students, and the minimum age for participation is 13. Those with an interest in the ever-growing relationship between sports and computer science are encouraged to enroll.
The camp will expose participants to a variety of digital and cloud-based applications commonly used in the sports industry. Students will gain hands-on experience in sport broadcasting and social media management, video editing, live statistics, scoreboard operations, recruiting software applications, instant replay procedures and digital ticketing. Campers will also learn about and compete in the growing events of drone racing and esports.
“Our community is very excited about this development,” says Dr. Peter J. Holbrook, Provost and Chief Academic Officer. “The timing is also perfect, considering the recent opening of the Tiffin University Drone Academy. Many instructors for the camp are also heavily involved in this initiative, and I see the collaboration as a fantastic opportunity for well-qualified individuals to teach these young people about the very innovative technology currently shaking up numerous industries.”
According to Dr. Bonnie Tiell, Tiffin University Professor of Sports Management, the program is set to be a unique blend of several disciplines, making it an especially enriching experience.
“This camp is one of, if not the first, of its kind,” she remarks. “Our goal is to nurture interest and excitement over the intersection of sports, technology and innovation by providing plenty of hands-on experiences in some of the coolest applications. Participants will try their hands at racing drones, broadcasting and analyzing training performance through cutting-edge software.”
The total cost of the camp is $299, which includes housing and meal accommodations. Attendees will stay in Clay Residence Hall, which is air-conditioned, and each camper will be given a single room. Paper towels and toiletries will be provided, however students will need to bring all personal hygiene items, towels, pillow and bedding for an XL twin bed. All meals will be served in the Cole Dining Hall.
