President Joe Biden has signed into law the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act, a legislation co-led by Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5) and Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA5).

"Our national security has long been jeopardized by relying heavily on Russia for our nuclear fuel supply," Latta stated. "With the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act now law, we’re one step closer to cementing the United States’ global nuclear energy leadership. I’d like to thank Chair Rodgers for her steadfast work on this issue, and I look forward to continuing to advance commonsense, pro-energy policies that help secure North American energy independence.”

Latta and Rodgers introduced H.R. 1042 in February of 2023, which was approved by the House in December of the same year. The Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act builds upon Latta’s Nuclear Fuel Security Act – signed into law in 2023 – and is expected to facilitate private capital necessary for expanding the United States’ nuclear fuel supply.
