The U.S. Senate voted last night to send the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act to the President's desk for approval, a move aimed at safeguarding Americans and U.S. national security from foreign adversaries, including the Chinese Communist Party.
Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH5), who co-led the bill in the U.S. House, expressed his satisfaction with the Senate's decision, stating, "This bipartisan bill is a victory for the American people and the United States' national security. The Chinese Communist Party should not use an app to surveil, target, and manipulate American citizens. With this bill set to become law, TikTok will face a choice: separate from Communist China-controlled ByteDance or shut down in the United States - it's that simple."
Latta also acknowledged his role in advancing the legislation through Congress, specifically through the Energy and Commerce Committee, and extended gratitude to the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party for their leadership in the process. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to countering Communist China's influence, stating, "While this is a necessary step to protect our national security, we have much more work to do."
The bill's approval by the Senate underscores a significant move towards addressing concerns related to national security threats posed by foreign-controlled applications.
