EVENTS TO FOLLOW PARADE IN DOWNTOWN TIFFIN

Following the Tiffin Memorial Day parade Monday morning, a special Memorial Ceremony has been planned on Frost Parkway. This year’s parade is being sponsored by Your Legacy Federal Credit Union and will start at 10 a.m. on South Washington Street in Downtown Tiffin.

The ceremony is being organized by Tara Balliet of Seneca County Veterans Services and Jody O’Millian of the United Veterans Council as well as Tiffin City Councilmember Ben Gillig, who is the master of ceremonies.

Events during the ceremony include:

  • The Fort Stephenson Chapter of the Daughters of the War of 1812 will present a wreath honoring the fallen heroes of the War of 1812. The Chapter president is to present the wreath and say a few words about their mission and those who came to serve.
  • Members of the Tiffin Columbian Marching band will perform.
  • Cannon fire by Gillmor Ordnance.
  • Remarks from retired Brigadier Gen. Mark Scheid.
  • A reading of the names of Tiffin and Seneca County veterans who passed during the year.
Gillig thanked everyone for their efforts with the parade and ceremony: “It is the highlight of my public career to be able to coordinate the 2022 Memorial Day ceremony,” he said. “I am most grateful to Your Legacy Federal Credit Union for its sponsorship and Rob Ledwedge for organizing the parade; as well as Tara Balliet and Jody O’Millian for their invaluable assistance in preparing for the occasion.”

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.
